Karting Championship 2011

I was really happy to hear that Abarth cars will continue its support of grass roots motorsport, when they announced that it will be a title sponsor of a leading karting championship in 2011. The karting challenge, which is jointly supported by Abarth Cars UK and SG Petch, the York-based Abarth dealership, takes place at Teesside Autodrome. It will be known as the SG Petch Abarth 2011 Karting Open Championship. This year will be my first time taking part in the karting championship, that’s only because I bought a new Abarth and the sales assistant was talking about it, which got me interested. Abarth will support the series by providing an Assetto Corse 500 race car in which the Championship winner will be offered an official track day test. The motorsport arm of Fiat Group Automobiles UK will also sponsor the end of season prize-giving dinner.

The award-winning Abarth brand has continued to find new fans in the form of enthusiast drivers wishing to express themselves through their choice of car. The range starts at 14,155 (OTR) for the 500 1.4 T-Jet while the Fiat Punto Evo 1.4 MultiAir costs just 16,500 (OTR). Ivan Gibson, head of Abarth UK, said: “Abarth and SG Petch are delighted to be involved in this exciting series as it allows us to support grass roots racing – the heart of everything we do. Teesside Autodrome is a wonderful venue which lends itself perfectly to karting and I’m sure we can expect a fine season of racing there.”

Winning And Losing is Always There When You Are Into Sports

No matter how good a sportsman performs in a ground, but there comes a time when he lost the most essential part of his game. Losing a game is good for a sportsman, as in this way he can understand his minor and major weaknesses on the speedways or a motor-racing track.

Winning and losing are the essential part of our lives and it’s not limited or restricted to sportsmen. But for sportsman the unique connection plays a vital role in his professional career. All his efforts and credits are typically associated with the essence of sportsman ship which develops automatically when he faces both conditions.

From the peak to the downfall, these two healthy dimensions are always interlinked with each other. No one can ever claim that he may not face the downfall or twist in his professional career, whether he is into motor sports or some other interesting sporting activity. Wining is helpful in keeping your self esteem at high level and when you lose a game you ultimately understand where you are standing now.

Even for new comers losing or winning a match make it possible for them to understand the game, the rival and the sporting skills. It’s good if a motor sports or a tennis players loses a match before his crucial encounter in some most anticipated match. At least he can overcome his weaknesses before time.

Winning and losing also depicts the strength and weaknesses of the other stake holders which are typically involved with the match.

Overall, good abilities at some speedways or tennis court show the level of commitment and sportsman spirit in the end. No one can deny the reality of that it all works like a cycle and it continues till the professional career ends up.

Losing a game also helps in taking rest, as any sportsman cannot afford to be in the lime light for a very long time. No doubt, sports fans are always expecting a lot from their favorite sport stars and if they find anything which goes wrong they show their affiliation with different sports.

It’s proven that it’s quite difficult for a fan to understand the ground realties and the miseries of a sportsman, but in the end, they do realize what’s wrong. So, it’s quite simple for a sportsman, as he must try to be on the top, but if he loses a match, then it’s not a big thing at all.

Want to Get Sponsors?? You Need to Ask Questions

If you want get sponsored you are gonna have to ask yourself a few questions….

What do you bring to the Table?

Before you start to try and put a sponsor proposal together I believe you need to take inventory of yourself and your current racing situation and ask yourself these questions.

1. What is my end goal? Meaning what do you want to accomplish with your sponsorship efforts? you looking to have your entire racing budget covered for the year, or are you just looking for a little help? Do you want to have your entire race car paid for or do you want just a little money to help pay for an engine?

2. What is your current budget? What monetary resources are you going to contribute? Do you have any cash? Do you have ability to get all the coomitments taken care of even if you only get a sponsor or two?

3. What is your past history with Sponsors? Were you able to bring new customers to their business as a result of your efforts? Are you willing to try?

4. Do you have the time to allocate to Getting & then Taking Care of Sponsors? This takes a lot of time to accomplish, you need to be sure and make this a priority. Some say the car is priority I say Sponsors are. Without sponsors a lot of guys don’t race.

Answer the above questions honestly, depending on the outcome of your answers you may figure out that either it’s gonna be extremely difficult for you to get sponsors or the flip side you will have a great start to putting this Sponsorship proposal in place.

1 Litre/100km Mileage Car???????

At the 42nd Annual Meeting of Stockholders of Volkswagen AG in Hamburg, the most economical car in the world is presented: the 1-litre car. The prototype, which until now has been kept closely under wraps, and which many people never believed could be built, was driven under its own power from Wolfs burg to the Annual Meeting in Hamburg.

Before the Annual Meeting, the current Chairman of the Board of Management, Dr. Ferdinand Pich, drove this research vehicle to Hamburg from the company’s headquarters at an average fuel consumption of 0.89 liters per 100 kilometers. This has once against impressively demonstrated Volkswagen’s position at the cutting edge of modern technology.

The objective of developing a roadworthy vehicle that consumes just 1.0 liter of fuel per 100 kilometers could not be achieved through compromise. All existing technical solutions were examined, and in close cooperation with numerous suppliers, replaced by better, and principally lighter versions. The result is a vehicle that looks more like a sports car than a typical research vehicle.

The conceptual necessity for a small frontal area led to an unusually narrow and very flat body form being chosen. The body was developed in a wind tunnel, is 3.47 meters long, but just 1.25 meters wide and just over a meter in height, and is made completely of carbon fibre composites. To save weight, it is of course not painted.

The carbon-fiber-reinforced outer skin is tensioned over a space frame that is not made of aluminium, but rather of magnesium, which is even lighter. The 1-litre car is powered by a one-cylinder diesel engine, centrally positioned in front of the rear axle and combined

with an automated direct shift gearbox. The crankcase and cylinder head of the 0.3-litre engine are of an aluminium monobloc construction. The naturally aspirated, direct-injection diesel engine employs advanced high-pressure unit injection technology to generate 6.3 kW (8.5 bhp) at 4,000 rpm. This gives the vehicle, which weights just 290 kg, an astonishingly lively temperament.

Fuel consumption is a mere 0.99-liter per 100 kilometers. With a 6.5-litre tank, this gives a range of some 650 kilometers without refueling. Due to the restriction of space, it was not possible to adapt an existing gearbox. For this reason, a compact, automated 6-speed gearbox is employed, which is controlled from a turn switch in the cockpit.

Running gear made of lightweight alloy, tyres that offer optimized rolling resistance and 16-inch wheels made of extremely lightweight composite material perfectly complement the economical drive system. The interior is sportingly simple in design, yet offers enough space for two people, who can comfortably get in after folding back the turret-like gullwing door.

An extremely lightweight construction has also been employed for the seats. The seat frames are made of magnesium, and firm, yet comfortable fabric covers are used instead of classic upholstery. Despite the lightweight construction of all components, safety has been a major element in all phases of the development of the 1-litre car. For example, the concept vehicle’s safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes, ESP electronic stability program and a driver’s airbag. Deformation elements at the front end and the space frame construction provide impact and rollover protection comparable to that of a GT racing car.

The sports-car-like design demonstrates that Volkswagen’s 1-litre car is not a Spartan research vehicle, but a high-tech special vehicle. It starts with the special seating arrangement. The driver and passenger sit centrally as if in a monoposto, but in tandem. The mid-engine is installed transversely in front of the rear axle. With its complex design (double wishbones at front, DeDion suspension at rear) and combined with the low centre of gravity and low overall vehicle weight, the lightweight running gear results in very agile handling.

The project team has impressively succeeded in combining driving pleasure with a level of fuel consumption never seen before. The 1-litre car also incorporates numerous details of a practical and convenient nature. For example, there is an easily accessible stowage compartment with a capacity of 80 liters under a separate flap in the rear; a reversing camera that helps when maneuvering; automatic locking/unlocking of the gullwing door and a starter button in the cockpit that together allow keyless operation.

The concept of the 1-litre car – four wheels, low height, with two seats in tandem – gives an idea for a possible new family of vehicles, which could cover new requirements ranging from the ultra-economical vehicle, through the low-lost everyday touring vehicle for young people to the high-performance sports super car.

Five Go Kart Racers Who Moved To Formula 1

# 1 – Michael Schumacher: The German-born driver, Michael Schumacher, has won seven World Championships, 91 successful Grand Prix races, and is the undisputed king of Formula 1 racing. With this kind of CV, it should come as no surprise that Schumacher was behind the wheel practically around the same time he started to walk. At the age of four, his father built his first pedal indoor go-kart with an engine. After the age of six, Michael won his first championship go-karting race. These early successes quickly led to sponsorship business, and when he was 18, Michael was both the champion of German and European go-karting. Three years later, he won the German F3 Championship and Go-Kart. Soon after, he was hired by Mercedes to drive sports cars, making his debut in Formula 1 when he was just 22.

# 2 – Ayrton Senna: – Just like Schumacher, Ayrton Senna was given his first go-kart from his father when he was only four years old. He had his first kart race at age 13 and launched first place in the competition. When he was 21, he was racing cars in the UK, and only after three years Senna made his debut in Formula 1. Over the next 10 years, he would make his mark in Formula 1, winning three world championships and 41 Grand Prix races.

# 3 – Fernando Alonso: – After winning two championships and 27 Grand Prix Races, Fernando Alonso became the youngest Formula 1 champion in history at the young age of 24. Inspired by his father, who was an amateur go-kart racer, Alonso started early by building his own go-kart when he was just three years old. At the age of seven, he participated in and won his first go-kart race. At the age of 10, Alonso had won six go-kart racing trophies. By 15, he had won the majority of the go-kart races he participated in, including a world championship. In 2000, at 19 years old, Alonso made his debut in Formula 1 racing.

# 4 – Kimi Raikkonen – Finnish Formula 1 driver, Kimi Raikkonen, might have been considered over-the-hill by the time he hopped into his first go-kart at age 10, especially compared to his companions on this list. But the racing superstar measures up all the same, when it comes to the number of races and championships won during his career. Before entering Formula 1, Raikkonen won dozens of competitions and title in Finland, Norway and Europe. With a Formula 1 championship and 18 Grand Prix wins on his list of accomplishments, it doesn’t seem like the late go-kart bloomer is planning on slowing down any time soon.

# 5 – Jenson Button – Another famous driver who got a seemingly late start on the go-kart track is Jenson Button. Receiving his first kart at the age of eight, Button made up for lost time thereafter. The British racing star, didn’t waste any time and drove to victory on his very first go-kart race. By age 17 Button became the youngest racer to win the Formula Super-A championship. BMW’s Formula 1 team signed Button not too long after his 20th birthday. As one of the youngest racers on this list he only has 1 championship and 12 Formula 1 Grand Prix wins, but there’s surely more to come. Organizations like the World Karting Association (WKA) give rise to some of the brightest stars in the world of Formula 1. With so much talent rising from the world of go karts, we are sure to see many more famous Formula 1 champions who got their start in go-karting.
